2026 Coquí Awards nomineeA Rincón surf school with a founder's story. Its About page says it grew from Eduard “Duke” Alifier (1938 to 2008), who moved to Puerto Rico in 1965 and is known as its first board shaper. Today it teaches beginner and private surf lessons, an efoil lesson, and runs paddleboard, snorkel, waterfall and bio bay tours.

The school
The About page names Eduard Dennis “Duke” Michael Alifier as owner and founder and describes him only in the past tense, with dates 1938 to 2008. He was born in Chicago, moved to Puerto Rico in 1965, opened a surf shop in San Juan and then Uku Surfboards in Rincón. The school says its mission centers on children and teens, particularly low-income youth and youth with autism. Its current owner and the founding year of the school are not published.
Tripadvisor reviewers name instructors Nico (most praised), Albert, Francis and Joey; none has a published title. The school says its instructors are ISA and USLA certified, which we have not independently verified.

Two hours with up to six students per class. Reviewers say first-timers stood up in their first lesson and name Nico for patience. Board, fins, leash, rash guard and wax are included, per the school.
