El Yunque National Forest Overview
El Yunque is Puerto Rico's largest nature reserve and the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. Nearly 30,000 acres of protected jungle contain hundreds of trails ranging from easy 10-minute walks to challenging full-day adventures. The forest receives 100+ inches of rain annually, creating lush vegetation, waterfalls, streams, and misty mountain vistas. Elevation ranges from sea level to 3,500 feet at El Toro peak.
